No One's Angels by Kelly Walker - Book Tour Review

No One's Angel by Kelly Walker

Published: 6th (or 17th) September by Kelly Walker
Genre: New Adult / Contemporary / Romance
Page Count: 390
Format: eBook
Source: Xpresso Book Tours

Synopsis: Tess used to spend more hours than she'd care to admit playing her favorite computer game, using the nickname Angel. She could pretend her life was different, and she could pretend Arion was just a friend. But a girl needs more to keep her warm at night than pixels, and she traded her virtual heaven for a real-life hell. Now she's on the run from a past she won't talk about, and the only place she has to go is the doorstep of the friend she's never actually met.

When Angel disappeared from their nightly games, it nearly destroyed Arion. He threw himself into work and women, but he can't help knowing the one-night stands will never compare to the angel who haunts his dreams. At first, when she shows up soaking wet and scared-shitless on his doorstep, he thinks his prayers have been answered.

But the more Arion tries to keep Angel close, the more her fear drives her away. If they are ever going to have a chance for a future, they'll first have to deal with the past that hasn't forgotten her any more than she's forgotten it--and Arion will have to learn how to let her go.

Content Warning: Due to adult sexual situations and language, this novel may not be appropriate for readers under 18.

Review:
5 / 5 stars

I was fortunate enough to receive a copy of No One's Angel for part of a book tour hosted by Xpresso Book Tours, this will in no way effect my opinion on the book!

First up I want to point out that not only does this have strong language and scenes of a sexual nature, but I guess it may also need trigger warnings. So heads up before I start the review.

Trigger Warnings: Refers to past rape and domestic abuse / contains attempted rape / contains abuse

I'm sorry if any of that comes off spoilery but I'm not going to start reviewing the book without giving my readers specific trigger warnings.

No One's Angel is about Tess (ign: Angel) as she runs away from her past to her gaming friend Axel (ign: Arion) for help. I picked up pretty much straight away that something terrible had happened to Tess from the way she was acting and behaving but I was glad she was seeking help, well, escaping from it all.

Seeking help and safety from Axel didn't just turn out to be a good idea, but it also opened up a rather large can of worms of their old friendship and feeling, and what they both had to deal with during their year apart. I think what I enjoyed most is that as a gamer I understand how easy it is to form strong friendships with people like this (though there is very different from any of mine) and that the information and back story of both the main characters is dished out slowly, which kept me invested deeply.

Whilst their friend/relationship isn't perfect, its truly a heart warming tale. Both characters have their faults, and both of their faults boil down to the same thing - not being able too or willing to talk - and its understanding why neither of them were an open book to begin with. It was nice seeing they had faults because it made them even more human.

Basically I loved reading this book from open to close and I really recommend it to anyone willing to battle through the trigger warnings mentioned earlier, what Tess has had to go through and eventually deal with again really tore my heart out but it was great to see just how strong she became during her time with Axel.

What moved me the most is each chapter is underlined by who is speaking, we get some from Angel and some from Arion, but at the end we get chapters from Tess and I loved how it symbolised her healing and moving on in life. How she was ready to be herself and not hide behind a game character, or think she has to live up to said game characters strengths, that she found her own strength.

*gushes* I really really loved this okay? Okay.

Wishlist Wednesday (59)

Wishlist Wednesday is a book blog hop hosted by Pen to Paper where we share and post about a book that has been on our wishlist for some time, or just added, that we can't wait to get off the wishlist.

HolesThere's A Boy In The Girls' Bathroom

Holes and There's A Boy in the Girls' Bathroom by Louis Sachar are both on my wishlist because I did own these books but I leant them to a family member who I really don't see all too often and I really want them back on my self.

Holes Synopsis: "I'm not going to run away," Stanley said. "Good thinking, " said Mr Sir. "Nobody runs away from here. We don't need a fence. Know why? Because we've got the only water for a hundred miles. You want to run away? You'll be buzzard food in three days." Stanley could see some kids dressed in orange and carrying shovels dragging themselves towards the tents. "You thirsty?" asked Mr Sir. "Yes, Mr Sir," Stanley said gratefully. "Well, you better get used to it. You're going to be thirsty for the next eighteen months."If you are looking for a truly remarkable novel, something to get your teeth into, something to make you think, and something to make you feel that you have just touched real class, then look no further than Louis Sachar's extraordinary, award-winning novel Holes.Camp Greenlake is a place for bad boys, where the belief is: "if you take a bad boy and make him dig a hole every day in the hot sun, it will turn him into a good boy." When Stanley Yelnats, accused and found guilty of a crime he did not commit, is sent to Camp Greenlake he really doesn't think it can be so bad. Stanley and his family try to pretend that he is just going away to camp like the rich kids do, and he promises to write to them every day. But the harsh realities of the camp, and the evil Warden with her lizard-venom impregnated fingernails with her own reasons for making the boys in her charge dig so many holes, sometimes make dying seem like a great idea. When Stanley leaves the camp to go in search of his friend Zero, their journey towards freedom becomes a battle with hunger, thirst and heat in the shadow of Big Thumb--a mountain so entwined in Stanley's own family history that he knows if they can reach it they will somehow find salvation.A complex story, riddled with the harsh imagery and barren despair,Holes is a perceptive and intricate homage to family and friendship which never shies away from the harshest of realities yet injects the story of a seemingly hopeless boy with a sly, sideways humour that crackles against the backdrop of the arid wastelands of the desert. A must for anyone, young or old, who relishes an intelligent, courageous and dynamic read.

There's A Boy in the Girls' Bathroom Synopsis:
Bradley Chalkers IS the oldest kid in the fifth grade. He tells enormous lies. He picks fights with girls. No one likes him—except Carla, the new school counselor. She thinks Bradley is sensitive and generous, and knows that Bradley could change, if only he weren’t afraid to try. But when you feel like the most-hated kid in the whole school, believing in yourself can be the hardest thing in the world. . . .

News from Lauren:
Oh. My. God.
It's official, I'm living in a flat with four other students. I'm an actual student ha.
Who'd have thought?
I have my first lecture tomorrow and I'm already suffering with "Freshers Flu" and had a stomach bug last week too. Great going Lauren.
Anyway, aside from that I've explored my new city a lot and thoroughly enjoyed being an "old lady", hopefully I can tell you more about this whole student deal next week.
I've also been watching American Horror Story, its really creepy and weird but I'm loving it. A lot of the television shows I usually watch with my Dad have restarted but I'm still adjusting to find time for them all.
What about the Dexter finale guys? Oh my. I cried like a little girl!
Hope you have all had a good few weeks, I'll try and be more active now I'm settled in a little better.
